Alex Buisse: Of Mountains and Men
Having developed a taste for Alpine climbing, Alex Buisse gave up an academic career in mathematics and computing to follow his dream of a more exciting and adventurous life. He is now a successful commercial adventure photographer and author specialising in mountaineering, skiing and paragliding. His active participation in these sports enables him to create impactful, emotive images that are both authentic and unique.
Photography has given Alex the opportunity to ski across the Arctic, yacht around Cape Horn, shoot the 2016 Olympics, work with refugees, embed with the Chamonix Alpine Rescue services and journey to many exotic places as well as indulging his passion for the mountains.
Alex’s CV boasts commercial work for an impressive range of clients, including Red Bull, the International Olympic Committee and BMW to name a few. His portfolio reflects the exceptionally high standard of his work. As well as this he spends a considerable amount of time doing humanitarian work.
Alex is based in Chamonix, in the heart of the French Alps, but is spending increasing amounts of time in British Columbia. We are fortunate that he will be joining us on Zoom to tell us stories behind his images and reveal some of the techniques, challenges and dangers, not least avalanches, falls and always having his camera out despite the conditions.
Check out the pictures on Alex’s website, Instagram and Facebook pages and his new site Mont Blanc Lines, a project he started during the pandemic, mapping out climbing routes on some of his landscape images.
